Earlier this year QinetiQ Maritime was awarded a contract by the MoD's Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) to undertake a programme of research into the co-ordination of ship defences against FIACs and other fast and agile small boat threats. This award follows previous work delivered by QinetiQ and funded through the MoD's Centre for Defence Enterprise (operated by Dstl), which provided what the company said was "clear evidence of the potential benefit of the technology concept for improved situational awareness that more effectively combines the use of existing sensors with co-ordination of a ship's close weapon systems".
