Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) said it is continuing preparations with its partner, Embraer, to deliver EMB-314 (A-29) Super Tucano light attack aircraft to Afghanistan under a US Air Force (USAF) Light Air Support (LAS) contract. The companies are proceeding with production planning even as they await a US Government Accountability Office (GAO) decision expected mid-June regarding a dispute over the LAS contract. In March the USAF announced it would disregard a Comptrol- ler General order to halt work on the LAS contract because of a renewed protest by losing bidder Hawker Beechcraft. The USAF claimed the decision to override the stop-work order was necessary to speed the delivery of an air support capability to the Afghan Air Force (AAF).
