The US Navy (USN) has decided to scrap a 22-year-old Los Angeles-class nuclear-powered attack submarine (SSN) that was damaged during a shipboard arson attack in 2012 and is too expensive to repair under current fiscal constraints, officials told IHS Jane's on 6 August. USS Miami (SSN 755) burned for 12hours on 23 May2012 while docked at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine, causing USD450 million in damage.
