South African Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has dismissed General (rtd) Moretti Motau and Refiloe Mokoena as the chairman and deputy chairman of the defence acquisition agency Armscor, it was revealed on 14 August. According to the South African Ministry of Defence (MoD), Mapisa-Nqakula was increasingly dissatisfied with Armscor's performance and the dismissals were "in the interests of the corporation's ability to deliver on its mandate". Motau had already been dismissed as Armscor's chairman by the previous defence minister in June 2012, but was reinstated by Mapisa-Nqakula. Nevertheless, the already-dysfunctional relations between Armscor and both the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and the South African defence industry continued to deteriorate.
