AgustaWestland has been awarded a contract from the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) for research into rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the MoD has confirmed. Speaking to IHS Jane's, an MoD source stated that the contract would cover two years of research and was worth approximately GBP2.3 million (USD3.6 million). The programme is known as the Rotary Wing Unmanned Air System (RWUAS) Capability Concept Demonstrator (CCD). It aims to "investigate the utility of a conceptual multi-role UAS... for the UK Royal Navy (RN)". The navy refers to the conceptual aircraft as the Tactical Maritime Unmanned Air System (TMUAS).
