Beijing has approved the introduction of a raft of reforms geared towards restructuring the national shipbuilding industry. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said in a statement on S August that the reforms, which were approved by the State Council at the beginning of the month, will be applied across the state-run shipbuilding industrial base, including sectors involved in "maritime transport, marine development, and national defence construction". MIIT said the reforms will focus on "structural adjustment" to promote the "upgrading" of the industrial base, which is dominated by two enterprises: the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC).
