Vietnam is to buy two corvettes from the Netherlands, Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) confirmed to IHS Jane's on 22 August. DSNS has "reached an agreement in the negotiations for the delivery of two Sigma-class corvettes, Type 9814, to the Vietnamese Navy," the company stated. Other sources say an official signing-ceremony is expected "sometime later this year". The value of the deal reportedly could reach EUR500 million (USD668 million), with the Dutch authorities partly responsible for funding the deal.
