A massive new aerostat-based aerial surveillance system, scheduled to be tested next year at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland, will be tied into an air defence system that guards Washington, DC. The planned September 2014 operational evaluation of Raytheon's Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Elevated Netted Sensor System (JLENS) will provide the US military with an opportunity to link the long-range surveillance and fire control system with the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS).
