Two more European Union (EU)-sponsored chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) risk-mitigation centres of excellence (CoEs) have opened in EU partner countries, bringing the total number to four. The CoEs aim to prevent the spread of materials and agents that can be used as weapons of mass destruction. The centres are designed to provide expertise in assessing how CBRN materials are handled, stored, and used by legitimate actors while preventing/minimising the risk of their falling into the wrong hands. Thus, such activity cuts across research centres, hospitals, industrial sites, and border posts/crossings.
