The operational commander of the EU's military training mission in Mali will propose to extend the mission's mandate to help consolidate the country's security. A formal decision on the proposal is expected by the end of 2013, he said. "What we have to do now is provide the 'after-sales' services and training to what we are doing now," Brigadier General Bruno Guibert, the mission's French commander, told reporters in Brussels on 17 September. "We need to go further, to the next stage: to create an operational corps."
