In a remarkably rare move, two US Marine Corps (USMC) generals are being fired for command negligence following a major Taliban attack on an International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) base in Afghanistan in 2012.Major General Charles Gurganus and Major General Gregg Sturdevant were asked to retire due to their role in commanding forces at the British-run Camp Bastion in Helmand province that on 14 September 2012 were successfully attacked by a force of 19 insurgents dressed in US Army uniforms. Two USMC personnel -Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Raible and Sargent Bradley Atwell - were killed in the attack, which also wounded a further nine coalition personnel, destroyed six AV-8B Harrier Ⅱ jump jets and put a further two out of commission.
