Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu has announced the establishment of a new National Defence [Supreme Command] Centre for use in wartime, to be built by late 2014 within the existing Ministry of Defence (MoD) building in Moscow.The centre will act as the headquarters for the Supreme Commander, President Vladimir Putin, and override the military General Staff (Stavka)."We have begun to set up the National Defence Centre, which will include three components: the control centre of the strategic nuclear forces; the Centre command; and control and management of daily operations of the armed forces," the minister told Interfax on 27 September.
