Canadian Minister of National Defence Rob Nicholson announced the launch of a new cost-saving programme called Defence Renewal on 7 October as part of efforts to reduce the Department of National Defence's (DND's) corporate overheads. It is estimated the programme will save the Canadian government between CAD750 million (USD718 million) and CAD 1.2 billion per year by 2017-18, with the savings to be reinvested in the country's frontline priorities.
