Egypt's foreign minister, Nabil Fahmy, confirmed to Russian television on 12 November that the country is considering purchasing arms and equipment from Russia. The news came as Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu arrived in the country for a two-day trip on 13 November. Fahmy added that Egypt was working on "a number of ambitious projects and programmes" and would "call upon the Russian government and Russian busi- nesses to take part in them". Russian defence export agency Rosoboronexport indicated on 8 November that it would sell weapons and equipment to Egypt, but that the Egyptian government would be responsible for financing any procurement.
