The US Air Force ( USAF) issued a Military Flight Release (MFR) on 28 February that will allow the conventional take-off and landing (CTOL) variant of the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) to begin initial operations at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.The USAF's Aeronautical Systems Center (ASC) at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio made the decision after evaluating the risks of unmonitored flights.
