The US military airdropped food supplies to civilians and soldiers in the northern Malian town of Tessalit when it was surrounded by Tuareg rebels in mid-February.Megan Larson-Kone of the US Embassy in Bamako, said: "There was enough food dropped to provide for at least several days."She added that the airdrop happened late at night, presumably to limit the risk to the aircraft and its crew.
