UK Royal Air Force (RAF) planners are considering proposals to keep some Lockheed L-1011 TriStar wide-body transport aircraft in service for up to five more months to help keep the country's air bridge to Afghanistan going at its current tempo into 2014. Although the October 2010 Strategic Defence and Security Review set an out-of-service date of December 2013 for the 1960s-vintage TriStars, RAF planners now say the aircraft might be needed for one of the last rotations of troops in the spring of 2014.
