The medical branches of 13 European militaries plan to align their staff training, regulatory and technical requirements to produce a modular multinational medical unit (M3U)by2014. State-of-the-art equipment will enhance the unit's 'plug-and-play' concept, while joint purchases of kit and supplies will help lower costs, according to officials at the European Defence Agency (EDA), which is co-ordinating the project.
