The Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) has concluded a combined forces exercise, the United Arab Emirates' (UAE's) official WAM news agency reported on 1 May. The exercise involved a GCC task force carrying out "successful amphibious operations" with "massive air cover" and under "one joint command", the news agency reported. It was not revealed which of the GCC's six members contributed forces and none of the other states reported any involvement in the manoeuvres, which came at a time of heightened tension between Iran and the UAE over disputed islands in the Gulf.
