Preliminary results of US Air Force (USAF) research into the effects of biofuels and synthetic fuels on jet engines indicate increased perfor-mance, which could offset the higher costs of those fuels compared with conventional petroleum-based JP-8. USAF officials involved in the research believe the performance benefits could ease operational and capital costs and thus reduce the comparative cost of alterna-tive fuels.
