The Syrian military is stepping up its use of air power as its efforts to suppress the rebellion become increasingly desperate. Witnesses said Syrian Arab Air Force jets carried out air strikes for the first time in Aleppo on 24 July. A BBC team in the city reported that a jet was carrying out strafing runs and recorded footage of an Aero L-29 Albatros flying overhead. However, it was unclear from this and footage posted on the internet by opposition activists if the aircraft was actually carrying out an air strike.
