US contractors have been exempted from issuing 60-day warnings to workers who may be affected by one-off sequestration defence cuts. The exemption follows growing concern among US-based companies regarding their obligations under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, as the government prepares to cut up to USD 1.2 trillion from the defence budget on 2 January 2013.
