Saab will not now develop a two-seat variant of the JAS 39 Gripen F combat aircraft as had previously been planned, but will instead focus its efforts on the single-seat Gripen E model, Swedish officials revealed on 28 August. Speaking shortly after the announcement on 28 August that Switzerland and Sweden signed a detailed bilateral framework agreement related to the Gripen Next Generation (NG), an official from the Swedish state-run defence export agency FXM said that, as both countries have opted to procure the single-seat Gripen E, no twin-seat Gripen F aircraft would be required.
