The hull for the first of three Mobile Landing Platform (MLP) ships for the US Navy has been completed ahead of schedule and under budget, General Dynamics National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO) announced on 10 September. Having finished welding the 27,241 tonnes of steel required to complete the hull structure, workers at the company's San Diego, California, yard are now outfitting and painting the future USNS Montford Point ahead of the planned undocking on 13 November.
