Providing modern military aircraft with appropriate communications capabilities is by no means a walk in the park. According to Ron Reiss, sales and marketing director at Israel's Rafael C3I directorate, the shape and speed of travel of the platforms concerned present non-trivial challenges to communication system designers. Then, said Pasquale Grassano, product management director at Italy's Selex Elsag Avionics Business Unit, the equipment has to contend with an environment character- ised by extremes of temperature and very demanding degrees of vibration, pressure, and humidity.
