Mexico's Minister of Communications and Transport, Juan Francisco Molinar Horcasitas, announced on 20 December that Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) has been selected to provide the next generation of the country's satellite system. The system's main mission will be to support national security communications and extend the coverage of the civilian communications network. This new system will improve Mexico's satellite communications capabilities tenfold and in some areas it could boost communication capabilities by 100 times, according to Molinar Horcasitas. BDS will provide two 702HP geo-mobile satellites, an extended C- and Ku-band satellite, two ground sites, network operations systems and terminals.
