Indonesia is planning to introduce a comprehensive defence procurement policy later this year that is intended to lead to military modernisation and defence industry development within the next decade. Central to the policy, which is currently being drafted by the Indonesian Ministry of Defence (MoD), is a commitment to procure from indigenous sources wherever possible and, when a foreign vendor is selected as prime contractor, to secure technology transfer through the introduction of the country's inaugural defence offset policy.
