Austrian Defence Minister Norbert Darabos relieved Chief of Defence Staff General Edmund Entacher from his position on 24 January following the latter's criticisms of proposals to scrap military conscription. This drew a sharp response from Darabos, who said the general had "undermined confidence ... and so I see myself compelled to relieve him of his duties".
