The UK Royal Air Force (RAF) is to disband two Tornado GR.4/4A squadrons - Numbers 13 and 14 - on 1 June, it has been announced. The decision will leave the service with five frontline Tornado squadrons and a fleet of 136 Panavia Tornado GR.4 aircraft. A spokesman for the RAF told Jane's that the move did not represent a reduction in aircraft numbers as yet, with the pool of fighters remaining constant. He said plans were still under way to decommission the RAF's Tornado F.3 variants by the end of March: a move that will see the disbandment of 111 Squadron, which is based at RAF Leuchars in Scotland.
