US Army officials expect to soon have a better idea of the timeline to field smartphones to soldiers for use during training and in-theatre.Various pilot programmes are beginning to suggest possible uses for the devices and Lieutenant Gen-eral Michael Vane, head of the Army Capabilities Integration Center, thinks that within the next year or so his office will have proposals for their use operationally and in train-ing; or 'force generation'.
