The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has committed four Eurofighter Typhoon combat aircraft to ground attack operations in support of the NATO-led mission over Libya, it revealed on 6 April. The announcement that nearly half of the mission's 10-strong Typhoon force will be re-rolled in an air-to-surface role marks a shift in tasking that has thus far seen the Typhoon employed exclusively in an air defence role, while ground attack duties have to date fallen to the Panavia Tornado GR.4.
