The Bulgarian government approved the country's new National Defence Strategy (NDS) on 13 April. The new document will be in force until 2020, although it will be revised in 2015 to incorporate political and military changes. The NDS calls for more effective defence planning and budget execution. It states that the country's defence budget should not fall below 2 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP), including expenses such as wages, annually during the period.
