Kenya has issued a series of security alerts to warn against possible reprisal attacks from the Al-Qaedalinked Shabab movement in neighbouring Somalia following the death of Osama bin Laden. Warnings were issued in April after threats of bomb attacks against shopping malls along with the EU and US diplomatic missions and escalated in the aftermath of the US raid that killed Bin Laden in Pakistan on 1 May. Defence ministry spokesman Bogita Ongeri told Jane's on 4 May that the priority for the armed forces has remained securing the border region, while "liaising and sharing information with other security forces" will help to ensure internal security.
