More than 60 Taliban insurgents launched a series of attacks on Kandahar City on 7 May, occu pying the Traffic Department and firing on the city's National Directorate of Security, the provincial governor's compound and other government facilities in the southern Afghan city. Afghan national forces, with air and ground support from US troops, responded to the situation and by 9 May had retaken control of the city centre, an IS AF spokesman said.
