The Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) announced on 31 May it has concluded negotiations with Venezuela over the sale ot eight Y-8 medium transport aircraft. AVIC said that the aircraft, produced by Shaanxi Aircraft Industry Corporation, will be shipped to Venezuela in 2012. Shaanxi President Li Guangxing said that the sale could lead to more opportunities to export Chinese-made aircraft to Venezuela and the wider South American market. Venezuela announced its selection of the Y-8 aircraft in 2010. The aircraft are expected to operate with the Bolivarian Military Aviation's fleet of ageing C-130H Hercules transports. AVIC said its sale to Venezuela takes the number of export orders for the Y-8 to more than 30.
