摘要

Japan has confirmed that it is prepared to move ahead with plans to export the Standard Missile 3 (SM-3) Block IIA ballistic missile interceptor that is being developed by Japan and the US. A statement by Defence Minister ToshimiKitazawa- published by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) on 3 June - said the export would be allowed under two conditions: that any sale would contribute to international peace and stability and that the export complies with Japan's long-standing policy on arms exports. Kitazawa said the SM-3 export policy would be affirmed by the two countries' respective secretaries of foreign affairs and defence, who will meet in Washington, DC, on 21 June.
