The US Air Force's (USAF's) Air Mobility Command (AMC) has routed a Lockheed Martin C-5M Galaxy over the North Pole from the continental US to Afghanistan. The flight, which departed from Dover Air Force Base (AFB), Delaware, on 5 June marked the first time a US AF aircraft had flown over Canada into the Arctic Circle, then down through Russia and Kazakhstan into Afghanistan. The C-5M arrived at Bagram Air Base on 6 June. US Transportation Command and AMC officials at Scott AFB, Illinois, said the mission was a "proof of concept" flight that will help establish future sustainment operations in Afghanistan.
