Poland will reduce its contribution to the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) when it next rotates troops in October. Deputy Defence Minister Czeslaw Piatas confirmed the decision during a joint meeting of the parliamentary Defence and Foreign Affairs Committees in Warsaw on 8 June. The Ministry of National Defence (MND) plans to reduce the deployed forces and strategic reserve, Piatas said, stressing that the government could reconsider the reduction plan if there was a radical change in the situation in Afghanistan. "Our plans are well advanced and Defence Minister Bogdan Klich has told our NATO allies, the Afghan Minister of Defence and ISAF commander [General David Petraeus]," he said.
