The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced in a notification to Congress on 5 July that it may sell an additional 125 M1A1 Abrams main battle tanks (MBTs) to Egypt. Egypt has not yet elected a new government following the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak in February amid a popular revolt. This proposed deal would mark the first major weapon sale by the US to Egypt since Mubarak left power.
