Satan's USD1.1 billion acquisition of the bulk of US biometrics specialist L-1 Identity Solutions has finally secured the approval of the Committee on Foreign Investment In the United States (CFIUS) following a series of delays.The purchase - which will be one of 2011 's largest defence and security acquisitions - was expected to have closed within a working week of CIFUS approval, which came on 19 July and was announced by Safran the following day. There had been four prior CFIUS deferrals.Safran and BAE Systems first announced that they would carve up L-1 between them in September 2010. BAE Systems' USD297 million purchase of L-1 's Intelligence Services Group completed in February. EU approval of Safran's purchase came the same month.Safran faced repeated delays in the face of US security concerns, given the sensitive nature of L-1 's technologies and Safran's status as a foreign, partly state-owned company. The French government holds 30 per cent of the aerospace, defence and security group.
