The Israeli Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Finance Ministry have abandoned plans to merge Israel Military Industries (IMI) with Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, deciding instead to privatise government-owned IMI. The decision was made by Defence Minister Ehud Barak and Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz. The two ministers had originally decided to merge IMI with Rafael but negotiations led to a deadlock after the Treasury rejected a Rafael request that it receive ILS1.7 billion (USD495 million) to offset IMI's debts.
