The Indian Air Force (IAF) is to assign only its most experienced pilots to fly the ageing Soviet-era MiG-21 'Fishbed' fighter in the wake of a series of crashes, it was revealed on 1 September. IAF Air Chief Marshal (ACM) N A K Browne was quoted by national media as saying that students currently going through the MiG-21 programme from basic training will be the last to do so and that from 2013 only pilots with previous experience on fast jets will be assigned to fly the type.
