The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced the first wave of redundancies under 2010's Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR) on 1 September. About 920 army personnel were made redundant: 660 had applied for voluntary redundancy under the Armed Forces Redundancy Programme but 260 were involuntary. The RAF saw 930 redundancies, although the proportion of non-applicants was higher than the army: 490 as opposed to 440 volunteers.
