South Korea has launched an agency charged with boosting indigenous defence industry capabilities and expanding international sales in line with a target to become one of the world's top military exporters during the current decade. The Defense Industry Development Council (DIDC) is co-chaired by the South Korean Ministry of National Defense (MND) and the Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MNE). The council - launched on 5 September - will work in collaboration with these two ministries in planning defence industry development over the coming decade, said the MND and MNE in a joint statement.
