Vietnam and Sri Lanka are outlining the details of a bilateral agreement that will call for the two countries' state-owned defence manufacturing facilities to collaborate on a range of projects. The terms of the defence memorandum of understanding (MoU), which is expected to be signed later this year, were discussed during Sri Lankan Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa's visit to Hanoi, which ended on 7 September. The MoU will also strengthen co-operation in military-to-military activities such as training, exchanges and explosives clearance techniques. Diplomatic relations - based on strong religious ties - have existed between Vietnam and Sri Lanka for more than 40 years, although this is thought to be the first time that the two countries' defence production units have collaborated.
