UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) officials are negotiating with Raytheon Systems to buy more than 500 of its Paveway IV dual-mode precision-guided weapons to replace ordnance used by the Royal Air Force (RAF) over Libya. Jane's has been told by MoD officials that the buy will be in addition to the UK's existing contracts to supply and sustain the RAF's Paveway IV inventory. The replenishment of the Paveway IV stock is expected to make up the bulk of the GBP140 million (USD221 million) the UK is projected to spend on replacing munitions used in Operation 'Ellamy': the UK's codename for its part in enforcing UN Resolution 1973.
