Intelligence reports suggesting imminent attacks from the Sinai Peninsula by Palestinian militant groups have spurred an enhanced Israeli security presence along the southern border with Egypt. The Israel Defence Force (IDF) deployed a battalion from its Kfir Infantry Brigade on 11 September, together with additional units from the Golani Infantry Brigade. The heightened alert has also prompted new security regulations from the Israel Air Force (IAF), which is also sending unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and helicopters to accompany border patrols and provide immediate air support in the event of a militant attack.
