Operations over Libya have reminded Western air forces of the importance of anti-access capabilities, specifically the suppression and destruction of enemy air defences (SEAD/DEAD). Yet the days of 'Wild Weasel' surface-to-air fighters and dedicated anti-radiation missiles (ARMs) are largely over. Today, most air arms - with the stand-out exception of the US Navy (USN) and its Boeing EA-18G Growlers - are giving up on mission-specific SEAD aircraft and weapons to look instead for more general purpose solutions.
