Safran and Thales are considering forming two joint ventures (JVs) to resolve their drawn-out talks over defence technology asset swaps. Safran will lead an Optronics JV, while Thales will take charge of a JV specialising in navigation products, according to media reports. The two companies have been negotiating how to eradicate duplication in their defence activities since 2007. Both companies confirmed to Jane's on 2 November that asset-swap talks were continuing, while a spokesman for Thales confirmed that a split of activities using new JVs was being considered.
