The contract to supply the Indian Air Force (IAF) with its new Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) may cost double the planned budget, industry officials told Jane's in mid-November. According to the rules governing India's procurement process, the lowest price in the bidding is to be selected as the winner, but an industry representative at the Dubai Airshow told Jane's that "because [the Eurofighter Typhoon and Dassault Rafale] are the two most expensive aircraft in the competition, what was originally supposed to be a USD 10 billion programme may well end up being more in the range of USD20 billion".
